South African Income Tax Guide 2024/2025
South Africa uses a progressive tax system where higher earners pay a larger percentage of their income in tax. This calculator uses the official SARS tax tables for the 2024/2025 tax year (1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025).

Tax Rebates 2024/2025
Tax rebates reduce the amount of tax you owe. They are based on your age:
- Primary rebate (all taxpayers): R17,235
- Secondary rebate (65 and older): R9,444 additional
- Tertiary rebate (75 and older): R3,145 additional
Tax Thresholds
You don't need to pay tax if your annual income is below these thresholds:
- Under 65: R95,750 per year
- 65 to 74: R148,217 per year
- 75 and older: R165,689 per year
Medical Tax Credits
If you contribute to a medical aid, you qualify for medical tax credits:
- Main member: R364 per month
- First dependant: R364 per month
- Each additional dependant: R246 per month
UIF Contributions
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is a mandatory deduction:
- Employee contribution: 1% of salary
- Employer contribution: 1% of salary
- Maximum monthly earnings for UIF: R17,712
